The short answer

Before you book, slow everything down. A beautiful website is not a safety system. A responsible retreat should answer practical questions clearly, calmly and without pressure.

Questions to ask

  • What medical and psychological screening happens before travel?
  • Who reviews medication and health history?
  • Who holds responsibility if a ceremony becomes difficult?
  • What emergency plan exists on site?
  • What training and experience do facilitators have?
  • How is consent handled during vulnerable moments?
  • What integration support exists after the retreat?
  • What legal jurisdiction does the retreat operate under?
  • What is included in the price?
  • What would make them say no to a guest?

A careful final note

If a retreat avoids these questions, rushes you, promises a cure or makes everything sound easy, that is useful information. You do not need to book quickly.
